Ten of us ventured to San Diego last July for Comic Con 2008. Douglas Wheeler-Nicholson, the fourth child of Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson and Elsa Bjorkbom and one of the two surviving siblings headed the clan as resident patriarch. Christine Blakeney, daughter of Marianne W-N and her son, Buster, the youngest member of the clan arrived from Santa Barbara. Diane Harley, daughter of Antoinette W-N Harley, the eldest daughter of the Major and Elsa and the other surviving sibling came from San Francisco. Christine Quigley, daughter of the Major's eldest son, Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson was part of the East Coast contingency and Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, daughter of Douglas and her spouse, Alex Smith arrived from Austin, Texas. Ian, son of Douglas with wife Erin along with your editor, daughter of Malcolm, Jr. completed the East Coast contingency.

The Eisner Awards. After an exciting day of discoveries on the convention floor and a panel presentation thanks to Mark Zaid, Esq. with fellow panelists Susan Cicconi of The Restoration Lab and J. C. Vaughn, Executive Editor and Associate Publisher of Gemstone Publishing we headed to the main event. It was everything we hoped for and more. Hollywood arrived in the guise of Samuel Jackson among others and the talented stream of presenters and winners of awards was proof that the Major's dream those long ago days in the Great Depression had been more than realized.

The Eisner Awards After 70 years Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson was honored posthumously for his ground-breaking innovations in bringing original art and scripts to comic books.

The good people who run this gigantic event may have been a little surprised at our excitement but it was a first time for us to come to Comic Con. It's huge! Everyone went out of their way to welcome us into this giant "family."
